Mental Health Quality Service Improvement
Aims:
This Course will provide the opportunity for students to consolidate knowledge and skills in managing individual and group risk, provide accurate information to individuals and other professionals during referral, implement complex Nursing care and engage in service improvement strategies.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Critically analyse signs of deterioration or distress, including self-harm and/or suicidal ideation, using this knowledge to make sound clinical judgements.
2. Demonstrate the communication skills required to refer to other professionals and services and provide information that meets individual need
3. Critically analyse information from a range of service delivery evaluation and audit findings in order to learn from and influence future practice.
4. Critically evaluate the quality pf people’s experience of complex care and the support required for individuals to maintain optimum independence.
5. Critically examine the implications of leadership and management in consolidating Mental Health Nursing.
Indicative Content
· Recognise and assess deterioration or distress, self-harm and/or suicidal ideation across a range of common physical, mental, cognitive, and behavioural health conditions.
· Referral to other professionals and services.
· Communication and relationship management skills in providing effective information at all stages of Nursing care.
· Risk assessment and management across a range of settings.
· Near misses, critical incidents, major incidents and adverse events and the influence to practice.
· Improvement strategies for quality and safety.

· Medicines Management in Mental Health Nursing.
· Therapeutic interpersonal skills in Mental Health Nursing, including professional boundaries.

DOMAIN 1 - KNOWLEDGE Content, knowledge and understanding of management report Demonstrates exceptional systematic understanding of key aspects of a management report, including acquisition and demonstration of coherent and detailed knowledge of your organisation’s recent CQC report. DOMAIN 4 – COMMUNICATION Communication, organisation and presentation. The report is cohesive and exceptionally structured and organised with exceptional flow of ideas. The written English is of an exceptional standard and observes all academic conventions in style and content. Demonstrates exceptional transferable employability skills and judgement.
DOMAIN 5 -REFERNCING Sourcing, acknowledgement, and coverage Sources used are, without exception, acknowledged in the text and the reference list/bibliography, using correct Harvard Style citation/referencing – including online sources.
